Fundamentals of Mountain Biking

The Fundamentals Group is for those discovering mountain biking, you must already be able to ride on non technical off road terrain such as a towpath. These sessions are to introduce fundamental techniques to take on trail centre trails, rougher bridleways and be able to take on common trail features confidently. It will also cover the basics of what to carry, where to ride, what to eat etc.

Advanced Mountain Bike Skills

The Advanced Group is for those riding longer technical routes with advanced features, going onto more exposed or complex terrain requiring more advanced skills, navigation ability, dealing with emergencies and more. An ability to ride an easier red trail would be a good benchmark to attend this session.

Who is it for?

Tuesday Club is a fantastic skills development opportunity for young riders who want to develop their off-road riding skills; from those learning basic bike handling skills, as well as off the bike skills which will support mountain biking and outdoor independence.

There are four themes to the sessions and progressions within each theme for all levels of experience, from novice to expert.

  • riding skills
  • sharing the outdoors
  • dealing with emergencies
  • being independent and self-supporting

What do I need?

Please dress for the weather and trail conditions, you will almost certainly get muddy!
Have a good quality mountain bike, with off road tyres fitted and brakes which work well.
Be able to ride it off road for upto 2 hours.
Helmets are compulsory!
Gloves, Glasses and Thin, flexible knee/elbow pads are also recommended.
Carry a few snacks + a full water bottle.
A spare inner tube if possible.

Mountain biking is an adventurous activity and as such does come with risk attached.
I have coached for a decade, with thousands and thousands of riders and had very, very few accidents… That being said… I cannot pull the brakes for you and falls from mountain bikes do happen. An acceptance of risk is needed in order to participate in this activity.
There will be a consent form to fill in by a guardian when attending your first session.

I will ensure that participants have demonstrated the requisite skills in simple terrain before taking on more complex features. For more able riders, this might seem a bit too easy at first, but it provides a great opportunity to see if riders are ready for a given feature.
