Fundamental Skills Covered
Here are some of the fundamental skills that your child will learn during this event:
The Ready Position
The ready position involves positioning oneself to deal with whatever’s ahead. This skill is essential for navigating challenging terrain, and helps to build rider confidence.
Cornering
Eliminate the feeling of being dragged towards the edge with this skill. Participants will learn how to safely and confidently navigate corners and turns on challenging terrain.
Braking
Knowing when and how to use your brakes is key to safely navigating challenging terrain. Participants will learn how to add control with their brakes, not take it away.
Flow
Flow is about dealing with common features that threaten your momentum. Participants will learn how to navigate these features confidently and smoothly.
Front Wheel Lifts
Getting your front wheel airborne can unlock many trails and also get you up a kerb! This skill helps to build rider confidence and enables them to navigate challenging terrain with ease.
Climbing
Arriving at the top with ease is an essential skill for young mountain bikers. Participants will learn how to safely and confidently climb challenging terrain.
What to Bring
Participants should dress for the conditions and be prepared to get muddy! They should also have a working decent quality mountain bike that they can ride for up to 2 hours off-road. Helmets are compulsory, and participants should carry snacks or cereal bars as well as a full water bottle. It’s also recommended that participants bring a spare inner tube if possible.
